That depends, of course, on what type of a book it is. Writing the manuscript for a picturebook can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, but illustrating one can take a lot longer – usually 6 to 8 months. Novels can vary, too. My very first one - The Sacred Seal- took about a year and a half to complete, but the next two books in the Goodfellow Chronicles trilogy each took about 6 months. I think that was because I had already fully developed the characters and the plot in the first book. I knew at that point which direction I wanted to go in regards to the story line.
