FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Who were your favorite authors and books when you were growing up?

Quite a few come to mind. When I was quite young, I enjoyed E.B White (he wrote Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, The Trumpet of the Swan ,etc.) Kenneth Grahame ( The Wind in The Willows) and C.S. Lewis ( The Chronicles of Narnia) and J.R.R.Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It's really nice to see that kids are still enjoying them as much today. When I got older, I started to like science fiction books quite a bit, too - and authors like Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Ray Radbury and John Wyndham. Stories by H.G. Wells (War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, The Time Machine) were favorites of mine and Jules Verne's books, too ( Mysterious Island, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Â.) One of the best series of books I remember reading were the 3 by writing partners Nordhoff and Hall - Mutiny on the Bounty, Men Against the Sea and Pitcairn's Island - really great historical novels about the 'Bounty's' mutineers and what happened to them. I enjoyed the classics very much (most things by Dickens and books by the Bronte sisters - Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights). I liked James Michener's epic novels - Tales of the South Pacific, Hawaii and Centennial. I also enjoyed the series of books by zoologist Gerald Durrell about his adventures around the world - my favorite was called My Family and Other Animals and I also liked reading James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small and the others in his series of books about his life as a veterinarian in the north of England in the 1930's and 40's.
